Carton live storage systems provide items sorted by type in adjacent lanes. There are no aisles between the lanes. As a result, space utilisation is much higher compared to conventional static racking. Compact storage results in space savings of around 30 per cent. It is also possible to combine carton live storage with pallet racking. In this case, static pallet racking is fitted with flow levels at operator reach height. While goods are presented for picking at the floor level, the upper pallet racking levels serve as a buffer stock for replenishing the flow levels. With sufficient supplies provided from the buffer stock, there are always sufficient products available and ready for shipment. In addition, the warehouse height is optimally utilised.
